a peek inside my bedroom.

“If you want a golden rule that will fit everything, this is it: Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” - William Morris. I absolutely adore this quote, it's ever so true!  Photobucket
As some of you may know, I live in a cosy one bedroom council flat (not a sky rise, just a two storey flat) with my mum, and a couple of years ago she ever so lovingly moved out of our bedroom to let me have my very own room. As it's the only bedroom in the flat, it means it's rather big and has two built in wardrobes (one for me, one for my mum!), and in the last couple of months I have nearly got it the way I want it - filled with many lovely secondhand finds, William Morris prints, floral patterns, frames, hat boxes, cushions, magazines, books, and pretty bits and bobs. My room used to be more floral and girly, but now I'm taking the more antique, vintage and eclectic look.

Of course my hobo jumper is the pride and joy of my wardrobe, hanging in it's rightful place at the front with all of my other knitwear, along with my most worn pieces folded on the shelves below. I bought the large gold frame in one of my favourite charity shops for three pounds, the matching hat boxes were five pounds and the floral hatbox was just fifty pence. The lovely, possibly vintage, suitcase was completely free, I found it just left outside my flat one day, so couldn't resist taking it for myself! The cabinet on the right holds a wooden divider (£1.50), a William Morris print folder (£1.25), a shoebox full to the brim with postcards, a few art books, House & Garden magazines (20p each) and a 1975 issue of Vogue I bought for just two pounds! This is definitely my favourite corner of my bedroom!Photobucket

I started to collect Vogue magazines in 2007 and since 2008 I forbade myself from ripping them up for collages, as they will be lovely things to look back on in the future. I think they make quite a lovely display in my wardrobe, but goodness me it is such an effort when I move them from one side of my room to the other! On display I also have some of my favourite secondhand books; the Collins Road Atlas (I ripped out the lovely map of London to put in my gold frame inside my wardrobe) was £1.50, The first Audrey Hepburn book was £5, the second was a gift, the third was a £1 and the William Morris book at the end was £1. Anyway, I think that I shall leave it has that, I hope you like my bedroom as much as I do! What does your bedroom look like, or what do you wish it looked like? Love, Jazzabelle. P.S. Yes, yes, I know it's not quite December yet, but I was actually going to post this on Wednesday but I just couldn't wait, hehe! Edit: Forgot to mention that I recently done an interview for Cellardoor Magazine's blog, please do take a look to find out what I can't live without and some tips for charity shopping!

  5. I love your room :). My room isn't decorated yet as I'm trying to finish my living room (stupid fireplace!) but once it is I will share with my readers.

I find it hard to throw away old glossies as well - drives my mum mental when she comes to visit - heehee..

  7. your room looks really cosy and it suits you down to the ground. mine on the other hand, not so much. i've always had the box room in my mums house, in the attic. the length on a 6ft bed plus another foot and the width is prob 6th aswell. it's just got white paper and brown carpet. along with my mac and my manic pinboard. now i have started decorating another room in my house as my gran passed away about 2 years ago but i've never finished it. i painted the whole room white, including the celing and one wall bright turquoise. that's where all my clothes are, still no carpet though.

being 3 floors up is cool though, i can see for miles and miles

  9. Looking at these from the comfort of my own room at my parents house makes me think about how important it is to make your space your own. Whilst I love my room, compared to you I have just been plain lazy in decorating it. I still haven't done much beyond putting all my stuff in it and buying a giant antique bed (beautiful but deceptively uncomfortable). I'm moving to my own flat after Christmas and will be doing some serious redecoration... Inspired by this glimpse you have given us into your unique boudoir.

Where are you doing your art foundation btw? X

  19. That William Morris quote is far too true! Aww, that's so nice of your mum to let you have your own room. You must feel very lucky. I'm loving the look you've gone for with your bedroom. It's got a nice vibe about it. I adore your little floral hatbox - too cute. My bedroom isn't very interesting at all. Just duck egg and floral. I'll be moving out next year though so that's where the fun starts, haha. I read your interview. It was certainly lovely. Have a lovely week.

  40. Awe, what a cool wardrobe! :) And it's so neatly organized! I don't even have a closet, so my clothes are all over my bedroom ... complete chaos! I'll have one in my new home, though, so I'm very excited (about that and moving, hehe).

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! It meant a lot to me :).

Hope you're having a great week!

  41. Beautiful photos m'dear, your room looks so lovely, I aodre the antique feel, and the way you've showcased your collection of jumpers ;)

I collect fashion mags too like Elle and Vogue and I still find it hard resisting ripping the pages out, the editorials are so inspirational...
I guess my room's perfectly tidy on one side and absolutely cluttered on the other, there's no real theme other than chaos, tehe.

From this, I'd say you are incredibly organised first off! I'm holding a giveaway you might like miss! Hope you're a happy bean, good to see you posting more regularly again :)jazzy ♥

  45. Some really beautiful touches, especially the map.

All my pre-2007 Vogues are butchered too ... even my Millenium Kate Moss edition! (I was an early reader, at 10. These days I have to keep them all hidden from my little sister's prying eyes and sticky fingers.
