flaws and all.

 photo jazzabelle-topshopjumper_zpse52abc07.jpg
Looking at my first photograph, I can't help but instantly focus on some of my flaws - from my crooked front teeth, to my large forehead and frizzy hair - all things I have spent far too long crying over in my lifetime. Despite focusing on my imperfections at first glance, I really do love this picture. I actually think I look rather beautiful, and that's not something I often say about myself. Maybe it's just my current mindset that is making me feel this way, tomorrow I might not even like this photograph, but all that matters is right now I do, and I am so proud of how far I have come with my confidence and body image over the last few years. I'm learning to love myself for who I am, because after all, I can't change the way I look (well, I can within reason) so I may as well just embrace my appearance and spend less time worrying and more time being happy. Plus, who doesn't want to prove their bullies wrong? I may not be some people's idea of beautiful, but I'm not doing half bad in my life.
The one thing I am so happy to say is currently not on my list of 'flaws' is my skin. Since the beginning of September I've been changing my lifestyle and diet to help improve my general well-being and complexion, and so far things really seem to be working, This is the best my skin has looked in ages, and (fingers crossed!) hopefully it will be staying this way for a long time. I plan to share a little more of what steps I've been taking to be happier and healthier in a future post, so do look out for that! Also, I can't end this post without mentioning my jumper - it's now the cosiest thing I own by far. Topshop, you've done well. Love, Jazmine.

  9. You look so beautiful in that picture honestly! I definitely relate with some of your insecurities you mentioned and I'm working on being comfortable with mine as well. One thing that helps me in terms of insecurities is knowing that I am my worst critic because so many times I've pointed out something I don't like about myself to someone only to find out that the person I'm talking to has no idea what I'm talking about haha. Anyway, I can't wait for your post on skincare because lately, my skin has been having a mind of its own!

  11. Lovely post sweets. It's crazy the flaws that we see in ourselves but great that we can see past them and be confident. I love having one over on the tools who bullied me in school! :D xx

  19. It's crazy to think how we see all these flaws in ourselves that others don't...even after you pointed out your 'flaws' I still don't see them because you're a stunner! I'm so glad you're feeling so much more confident and happy in yourself, it took me a while to realise but life is really too short to be worrying about what you look like and as corny as it sounds it's the inside that truly counts. x

  21. Gorgeous photo! It took me a long time to understand I have to love who I am instead of wishing to be someone else, and even though I'm there now, I still have moments when I relapse and wonder if I should take this step or the other to be more like what is deemed beautiful by our society! It's a constant battle, I'll tell you that! But you definitely get better at winning as time goes by, and you get older and wiser! :) So, only amazing things to look forward to! :)
Congratulations on taking the steps you needed to take to help your skin! I'm sure that makes such a big difference! :)

  23. The best body image advice I have been given was to look at myself as a whole. It is so easy to zone in on our insecurities isn't it? I've found myself obsessing over the way my upper arms spread or my belly showing in my clothes rather than looking at anything else. But then sometimes I'll look at a photo and see all of me and think that I'm all ok. Its a tough journey and I'm glad you;re doing so well with yours, beautiful lady

  25. You are beautiful and I think you show this in many ways, not just in this photo. You have a lovely and genuine smile in your photographs and your wonderful blog, which is a piece of you, proves this too. I've said this before but I'll say it again: I adore your unique and personal style and you're such an inspiration to me. Thank you for taking some time out to focus on you and to build your confidence. Hopefully you'll realise just how special and amazing you are!

  34. This is exactly what I needed to read just now! I wake up every day looking into the mirror and focusing on my imperfections (i have acne scarring and acne prone skin), instead of embracing the things I love about myself... I do think that in some pictures I look beautiful and in others I just don't, but that's normal... You, however you just perfect with your gorgeous wavy hair in your cozy jumper! More posts like this please.... :)

  36. Honesty and integrity are so important in the blogging world which is saturated with beautifully curated 'lifestyles'. I think you look gorgeous in that picture, but that's beside the point. You posted it because you saw your perceived 'imperfections' and you saw your own beauty AT THE SAME TIME. And that's amazing! :)

  37. Great post. I think we are all quick to ntice our own flaws but takes us a while to list our positives and things we like about ourselves. Funny thing is that What You consider ua a flow most often passes unnoticed by others :) You look amazing in this photo :)
